We decided to start a support group for parents and carers of children with ADHD because there is no support system local to Macclesfield and there is a great need for one.
It can be a stressful, frustrating and lonely role being the carer of an ADHD child. You feel like nothing you do is right, you are bad parent and you feel isolated and judged by the rest of the world. Sound familiar? You are not alone, many carers have said the same thing. Our support group will give you the chance to meet other carers in the same situation. You can compare notes and give and receive tips and practical advice, have someone to talk to who understands and the meetings will get you out for a couple of hours child-free.
We can arrange car sharing for members who live close to each other and also if you are a bit nervous about coming to a new place alone, someone can come and pick you up and bring you to the first meeting. We don't want people to miss out just because they may be a little shy. Once there, you will see what a friendly bunch we are.
As the group establishes we will be inviting guest speakers to visit the group to offer advice etc. These will include specialist ADHD nurses, educational representatives, SENCO, Friends for Leisure etc.
